I've been mentoring students to take the SAT since 2000. I was first trained by Kaplan to teach the SAT and LSAT (for Law School) in 1999. Kaplan requires all tutors to have 95% or higher SATs. I feel my biggest asset is not my content knowledge or teaching skills, but rather my ability to connect with learners on a personal level. I really enjoy the time spent with my students. I empathize with this period in high schoolers' lives and I know the pressures they face. I go through all the highs and lows with them while keeping them motivated, positive, and feeling good about their progress. I believe learning should feel like an enjoyable struggle.
