On top of being trained as an editor specifically for application essays through the BYU Pre-Professional Advisement Center, I've been working as a writing coach for high school and undergrad students for nearly ten years. In association with Write On Workshops alone, I've coached over 100 students in one-on-one sessions designed to strengthen their writing and editing skills. I love helping a student that feels overwhelmed by the writing process break it down into something manageable and authentic to them. I graduated BYU with a major in Creative Advertising and a double minor in Creative Writing and Editing.

About Lauren
I grew up in Salt Lake City, dreaming of writing for SNL one day. Or maybe directing my own movies. Or publishing fantasy novels. I was beyond excited when I got to college and discovered there was a job I could have that somehow let me do everything at once: creative advertising. After graduating from the BYU AdLab, I've spent the past three years writing poems, producing short films, and designing performance art pieces all in the name of "the client." (Although I still try to find time to write poems and design performance art pieces in my own name, too.) When I'm not scribbling things down in a notebook or cheering you on as you scribble something down in yours, I'm exploring a new museum, collecting a new deck of playing cards, or rewatching Sam Rami's Spider-Man 2.
Why do I coach?
After graduating from my favorite creative writing summer program as a high school student, I applied to stay on as a counselor for younger kids the following year. I discovered that I loved teaching writing almost as much as I love writing for myself. Ever since, I've spent my summers and weekends searching for new ways to help students feel comfortable telling their own stories as a writing coach for Write On Workshops, the University of Utah's Youth Education, and Brigham Young University, as well as coaching independently. In 2019, I discovered something I liked even more than coaching writing: coaching writing that got my students into their dream schools. I know it sounds insanely corny, but as soon as I was trained specifically to work on application essays, I was always chasing that high. I still love getting to hear the stories of my students' lives, and use those stories to shape their application into something extraordinary.

As a writing coach, I serve as project manager, editor, and and assistant throughout the writing process. While I specialize in individual instruction for high school age students, I have a broad range of experience with students of all ages. I've helped students prepare their writing for publication, college applications, and more.

I graduated with a major in advertising and minors in creative writing and editing. While still a student, I was awarded the Gold Cube for craft in writing by the One Show for Creativity, a Gold Telly award for branded content, and won the National Student Advertising competition. I spent three years as a copywriter in the BYU AdLab, lead the MadGals initiative for diversity and inclusion in advertising, and represented BYU in the American Advertising Federation.
