Ty’s Medical School Qualifications
60+ people coached for Medical School
With over 20 years in medical education, I am a passionate coach and mentor to those seeking admission to medical school, as well as to medical students applying for residency programs. Having served as an MMI Interviewer I have a strong understanding of the qualities and traits that admissions committees are seeking. Working closely with medical students from first to fourth year, I have coached and mentored dozens of medical students as they navigate the residency application and interview process. I am particularly drawn to learners who are first generation college students and/or come from socio-economically challenged backgrounds. I believe medicine needs learners who reflect the patient populations they will serve and who bring intelligence, compassion, and a strong work ethic. It is my mission to help those learners achieve their goals.

About Ty
Hello, My name is Ty and I have had the honor and privilege of working in the field of medical education for several decades. I came to medical education in a circuitous manner, often learning on the job. I returned for more education, including a Masters Degree in Education and Instructional Design, as well as a PhD in Education with a specialization in Adult Learning & Development. I have worked with learners at all levels, from medical school applicants to faculty development. I have reviewed thousands of medical school and residency applications, personal statements, letters of recommendation and interviewed scores of applicants for both training phases. I have worked at two excellent medical schools - one in the Northeast and the other in the Southeast and have been able to learn from their similarities and their differences. I have recently retired from my full time position in medical education, yet I am not ready to leave the world of medical education behind completely. I have so much knowledge and experience to share and would be delighted to speak with you about YOUR journey and how best to attain your goals.
Why do I coach?
I am very grateful for having the benefit of an incredible mentor and coach who not only saw potential in me that I had not considered, but who also encouraged, coached, guided, and supported me in my journey from being a first generation college student to earning my PhD in Education with a specialization in Adult Learning & Development. Coaching is a way for me to give back and it is immensely gratifying to become a part of another's journey forward.
