About Thomas
I was admitted into the Kellogg 1Y program in 2021 but chose to defer a year and matriculated in June of 2022. My career leading up to my MBA has been focused on nonprofits and mission-driven startups--both in the United and in Europe/Africa. During my undergraduate/graduate programs, I was fortunate to work with brand-name charities like charity: water where I supported the launch of their U.K. business. After I graduated, I threw myself into the for-profit world looking to better the world. I worked for U.K.-based startups Pan Africa Solar and Bboxx seeking to end energy poverty in the developing world where I led the launch of Bboxx Nigeria in 2020. Due to COVID, a desire to be closer to family, and acceptance into a top MBA program, I decided to move back to the U.S. where I currently work for Capsule making a better pharmacy for everyone--i.e. more transparent, convenient, and affordable. Post-Kellogg, I accepted a position at CrossBoundary a half-investment bank, half-consulting outfit working specifically in emerging markets. At CrossBoundary I served as an advisor to SME executives in emerging markets and helped them create investment profiles (financial models, pitch decks, etc.) to then connect with our network of investors that prioritize frontier and underdeveloped markets. I have since moved on and am now working on my own venture Agave: outsourced accounting and finance for nonprofits and social enterprises.
Why do I coach?
One of my favorite TV series--like many others-- is the Apple+ produced Ted Lasso. I grew up playing sports (basketball and football--go Cougs!) and love how the Richmond way focuses less on wins and losses and more on building up players into better and more compassionate people. I believe that MBAs--and of course the preceding applications!--give the same opportunity for reflection, goal-setting, and development that we get to see AFC Richmond experience under Ted's tenure. I don't have quite the same level of charisma as the titular character, but I am passionate about helping people chart and tell their stories, put on their best suits, and shine in front of MBA committees.
