About Tanner
I am a graduate of Harvard Business School, with work experience within the professional sports industry. I am now a Vice President at Fenway Sports Group, serving as Chief of Staff and Investment Advisor to the Principal Owner, John W. Henry. I was the 1st person in my family to attend college, graduating Cum Laude from the University of Florida with degrees in Statistics and Finance. My junior year summer internship was spent with the Strategy & Analytics team of the Boston Red Sox. After school, I spent some time at management consulting firm ZS Associates before heading back into sports with the New York Jets, where I led strategic projects for the Owner, President, and COO. I’ve prided myself on pursuing an industry that is “outside the box”, so both my career progression and MBA application process were filled with uncertainty. As a coach, I have advised countless students on how to embrace this uncertainty and take a creative approach to these extra-competitive processes. For the recent application cycle, I had immense success with a wide range of students from different backgrounds gaining admission to Wharton, Booth, Columbia, Kellogg, HBS, and GSB. Areas I feel I can particularly bring value in coaching include: MBA Coaching: - Developing a cohesive personal story for applications, and covering any concerns arising from a suboptimal GMAT score, unusual pre-MBA work experience, and/or applying from a non-target school - Writing impactful, yet concise essays and short answer questions - Building a quantitatively-driven and compelling resume - Preparing for interviews (especially HBS) - Creating robust guides to select and prepare your recommenders - School selection (+ unique quirks of each top school) Career Advice: - How to “cold outreach” network + interviewing in fringe industries - Navigating the extremely competitive, opaque sports industry recruitment process
Why do I coach?
Coaching matters to me because I know how lonely this process can be. Coming from a non-consulting/non-banking industry before my MBA, I felt lost among all the admissions help options out there on the Internet. Applying with a formal consultant is EXPENSIVE, and feels way too transactional. I take pride in being able to help students sift through the uncertainty and find a cost-effective yet comprehensive way to apply to top MBA programs.
