About Shalabh
I’m Shalabh, a Harvard MBA and founder of an investment firm. My career has spanned finance, technology, and entrepreneurship across the US, India, and the Middle East, giving me a global perspective on business and strategy. I started my journey as an operator at an early-stage edtech startup, where I helped scale the company from 0 to 100K users. That experience taught me the fundamentals of building and growing a business from the ground up. From there, I transitioned into investment banking in India, where I worked on complex financial transactions, and later into Big 4 financial consulting in Boston, advising clients on strategic and financial decisions. After graduating from HBS, I took the leap into entrepreneurship, launching a fintech startup focused on financial inclusion. Very soon after, I co-founded an investment firm with another HBS graduate, leveraging my diverse experience to support and invest in innovative businesses. Throughout my career, I’ve navigated multiple industries and geographies, which has given me a deep understanding of how to position diverse experiences into a compelling personal narrative.
Why do I coach?
When I applied to HBS, I didn’t come from a traditional management consulting or PE/VC background, which made the process feel even more daunting. As an Indian male in finance—one of the most overrepresented demographics—I knew I had to differentiate myself in a meaningful way. I was fortunate to receive guidance from a few mentors who helped me shape my story, challenge my assumptions, and refine my application. Their insights were invaluable—not just in getting admitted, but in helping me better understand my own strengths and aspirations. That experience made me realize how powerful the right guidance can be. Many highly qualified applicants struggle not because they lack credentials, but because they don’t position their experiences in a way that resonates with admissions committees. That’s why I’m passionate about coaching—I want to help others avoid common pitfalls, build confidence in their narrative, and put their best foot forward in the MBA application process.
