About John
My name is John and I am a graduate of the University of Iowa Physician Assistant Program, which is a highly ranked PA program with incredibly competitive admissions (only 25 new students are admitted per class.). I have experience as both a successful applicant and have been involved with the admissions process at UI as an interviewer and grader for the MMI (Multiple Mini Interview) portion of the interview weekend. I was also a non-traditional student, both in terms of my path to the PA profession and my age at the time I applied: I had worked as a Paramedic and/or Firefighter in the Tampa, Florida area for over 10 years and was 38 years old when I started. The experience of applying to programs as an older applicant who was changing careers gave me a healthy amount of added insight into the strengths and weaknesses that applicants with prior professional backgrounds bring to the table.
Why do I coach?
I chose to coach because I really wish I had someone in my corner with first-hand experience that I could turn to for advice and counseling. Applying to PA programs is a stressful and complex undertaking, which is why I want to use my experience and my direct knowledge to help other applicants navigate the process and find success while minimizing the crushing doubt and anxiety that can accompany the admissions season.
