Jake’s Venture Capital Qualifications
I worked my way into the Venture Capital industry from a non-target background. I did not previously work in investment banking, management consulting, or tech. I believe that breaking into venture comes down to good coaching and strong networking.

About Jake
I started my career on the operating side at Collective Inc, an omnichannel advertising technology company. Following that, I joined the Chief Investment Office at JP Morgan where he gained a deep understanding on how financial institutions operate at their core. I began my venture career while in business school, during which I helped launch Primetime Partners, a $50M early-stage fund founded by Alan Patricof (co-founder of Apax Partners and Greycroft) and Abby Levy (co-founder of Thrive Global). I then joined Basecamp Fund where I've been focused on pre/seed investments in consumer, fintech, marketplaces, and web3. Notable investments include GamerGains, Really, Bridge, LegalMate, and Americana. Jake holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Maryland and an MBA from Yale School of Management where he was the President of the Fintech and Blockchain Club. I really enjoy working with candidates who come from non-target backgrounds and are looking to pursue their MBA at a top-tier school, or are looking to break into venture.
Work Experience

Investor
Basecamp Fund
July 2021 - Present
I am currently an investor at Basecamp Fund, the dedicated early-stage investment vehicle within Alumni Ventures. I focus on Pre-Seed and Seed stage investment opportunities in a generalist capacity. However, my areas of interest include consumer, fintech, marketplaces, and web3. Notable investments include GamerGains, Really, Bridge, LegalMate, and Americana.

Investor
Primetime Partners
March 2020 - June 2021
I joined Primetime Partners as an MBA Associate, and the fund's first hire, to help scale from 0 to 1. The fund's thesis was rooted in the macro trend of aging populations, and thus was set up to invest in companies and technologies that catered to the older adult demographic. I joined the two partners and helped bring their vision to life, launching the $50 million Fund I and putting various processes in place to professionalize the operation. By the time I left, we had deployed close to $10 million in 13 companies.
Senior Associate
J.P. Morgan & Co.
August 2014 - July 2019
I spent 5 years in JP Morgan's Chief Investment Office, working specifically on the North America Finance team. The department's role within the organization was to fund the banks various businesses, and manage the entire bank's interest rate risk and liquidity risk as a result. My role, specifically, involved a lot of analytical work surrounding the firm's balance sheet and income statements. Throughout my five years, I wore a number of different hats within the team and worked on numerous high profile projects for senior management.
