I am a nontarget student who broke into a large bank for fulltime. I have done the extensive networking and leg work myself to break in and have coached up other students in classes below me. I have gone through my 2 year analyst stint moving from a poor performer and moving up into a top performer in my group. I have also recruited for LMM-MM Private Equity and Corporate Development and am now shifting into a Corporate Development Associate role for a PE-backed company and can speak to these processes.

About Jack
I am from Charlotte, NC, and ended up at a nontarget school for Finance (NC State). I originally thought I wanted to do accounting, which NCSU is a target for Big 4. As I explored I discovered accounting was not for me and shifted towards finance. When Covid hit it interrupted my Sophomore Corporate Treasury internship. From there I stumbled onto Investment Banking and it seemed like the ideal path to get as much exposure as early as possible. I have done the leg work to network for an IB seat and lateraled from a boutique internship (Boutique later acquired by Houlihan Lokey) into a fulltime role with a large IB. I have completed my Analyst stint and have recently recruited in PE and Corp Dev. I ultimately have decided to take a Corp Dev Associate role for a PE-backed company working directly with their VP of Corporate Development as I see it as a growth opportunity and one with a lot of upside in a highly acquisitive company.
Why do I coach?
Coming from a nontarget, breaking in was challenging. I had to overcome a lot as a student with no pipeline and a poor GPA. I had folks in the industry who helped me and I recognize I would not be here without their support and I have tried to do the same for others. My hope is that through Leland I can help support others' journeys into Investment Banking, Corporate Development or PE.
