I’ve been teaching the GMAT since 2006 and the GRE since 2009. Over the years I’ve created a vast collection of slides, notes, and handouts for you. But I don’t believe in being complacent – in fact I’m constantly trying to improve through further study, research, and innovation. When I worked for a test-prep company I wrote a 270-page manual on Verbal problems, to help train the company’s teachers and textbook writers. To keep my math skills sharp, I regularly take college-level math courses. Right now I’m also redesigning my whole Critical Reasoning curriculum. For me the most exciting thing about teaching is that moment when a student suddenly understands a concept. To make those “aha!” moments happen, I carefully tailor my lessons to each student’s knowledge level and learning style. I'm an experienced GMAT tutor who has tutored hundreds of students over the past five years. My clients have been admitted to Harvard, Yale, MIT, Cornell, and more. I have a 98th-percentile score on the GMAT (750 original version) and a 99th-percentile score on the GRE (335). My approach is straightforward, kind, and effective. We'll spend our time on the skills you need to build to succeed, and I'll always be honest with you about your progress. I'm happy to provide comprehensive instruction on the entire exam, occasional help for self-study, or anything in between.

My intuitive, common-sense approach to the GMAT has helped numerous students get top scores since 2011. I emphasize comprehension rather than memorization: Instead of just giving you rules to remember, I help you figure out why they work. There's no magic formula that makes the GMAT easy, but with my techniques, it won't feel too hard. A good GMAT tutor should meet students where they are, and I always strive to do this. If you know a concept but struggle to apply it to certain tricky problems, I can help you with that. Alternatively, if you need something explained from the ground up, I can help with that too. I am flexible enough to work within your mental framework, rather than imposing something completely unfamiliar. My goal is to find explanations and methods that work for you, even if they aren’t entirely standard. I'll make sure to warn you if you're heading in a wrong direction, but for the most part I view GMAT tutoring as an opportunity to help you leverage skills that you already have. I've found this to be a very rewarding process, and I think you will too!

I like the GMAT! I enjoy the challenge of GMAT puzzles and the satisfaction of developing effective skills to solve them. I've been helping students to improve their scores for 10 years, and have developed some creative ways for students to overcome the intellectual and emotional challenges of taking the test.

Between the actual exams, tryout exams for jobs, and personal diagnostic exams, I have never scored below 99th-percentile on the LSAT, GMAT, nor GRE. I started in the industry in 2002 with Kaplan, and founded my own company in 2005. I was one of Veritas's (acquired by Varsity Tutors as their elite program) first instructors and a go-to instructor for most of their existence, teaching literally coast-to-coast until moving off of their grid in 2017. Career highlights include successfully writing and then teaching my own LSAT course, teaching over a dozen GMAT classes at Booth School of Business at University of Chicago, and tutoring around Silicon Valley at locations such as the Google campus, Stanford, and the San Francisco Financial District. In short, I've taught and tutored thousands of students within the elite model used by Veritas, Manhattan, and others, in which the highest-scoring instructors teach in small classrooms and focus on higher-end analytic aspects of the exam. I wrote my own LSAT course, and I contributed to the highly-regarded Veritas course and books. My students have gone on to attend the best law and business schools in the world.
